We enjoyed good food and great beer while at Ballast point this week. Our server, Donna, was incredibly kind and attentive. She was so sweet and friendly and gave great customer service to us and our kids that she made it a great visit! In fact, everyone from the front of the house to the expos were really very helpful and sweet even with our polite, but slightly excitable kids. We would definitely come back again.

I love Ballast Point! I have been to their other locations (Miramar, Little Italy) and just visited this location off Linda Vista last night for trivia (Tuesday nights). The Miramar and Little Italy locations are a lot bigger and have food, however this specific location has a market attached to it for all your brewing needs. You can order food from the restaurants in the plaza and bring it in. I think this place is perfect as a local cozy bar/brewery for those who already live in the area and USD students. Not suited for huge parties, however if you come at the right time you may be able to arrange many tables to fit your group. They have their staple beers here on tap that you have probably seen bottled or canned at local grocery / liquor stores. No R&D beers that I can remember like their Miramar location. Only alternative to beer that I saw (other than non-alcoholic options) was a seltzer they made. Parking can be rough during peak hours since it's shared with the other businesses here and the lot is pretty small. I had a blast at trivia last night (lasts about 2-2.5 hours) and hope to participate again in it soon!

My favorite beer from Ballast Point definitely is their Grapefruit Sculpin IPA. Maybe not the best Grapefruit IPA I ever had but it's definitely up there and it is the first beer I run to when Ballast Point and that particular beer is accessible on the occasion. I have loved this Grapefruit IPA for years. But when I saw that Ballast Point was due for a review while looking at my list I thought it would be more well rounded of a review yo try one other beer of theirs. Unable to break away from the Sculpin series I got the regular Sculpin IPA and enjoyed that beer equally well as the Grapefruit version. With a hoppy and fruity flavor this IPA was very pleasant to drink as well. But of course I also had to get the Grapefruit IPA again. How could I not with it's juicy Grapefruit flavor mixed in with the hoppy flavor? It was great revisiting it again as we as trying a different beer from Ballast Point that I haven't tried before. Glad to have had the experience with the regular Sculpin IPA to be as enjoyable as the Grapefruit version.

Lovely, welcoming, tons of home brewing supplies. A little tricky with parking but I think there's more in the back. The service couldn't have been more friendly and the beers were great! Plus at $10 for a flight of 4 I'm not sure you can get a better deal. The habanero beer was unique. I'm not sure I'd want a full glass of it but 4 Oz was nice. It leaves a warm tingle in your throat after you drink it but it could get pretty overpowering. The nitro stout was smooth and rich! Blood Orange IPA had a nice fruity touch (my mom thought the IPA was strong) and the red ale was refreshing too. We played a few games while we tasted our beers and could've stayed for much longer. Great place to visit! Love that they offer classes and other merch here too.
